SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — November 3, 2026. Once the polls close, election-night numbers can move quickly. A candidate may lead early, another may close the gap later, and a results page can change long after television coverage starts. That does not automatically mean anything unusual happened. It means different groups of ballots are being counted and reported in stages.

When do Pennsylvania polls close?
Polls are scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. may vote. Do not treat a projection before polls close as a certified local result.
Where should readers check first?
Start with the Pennsylvania Department of State’s election information and the Schuylkill County election office. County-level reporting is the authoritative source for local precinct information, and state reporting consolidates broader contests. News organizations may present useful summaries, but a news graphic is not the certification process.
Why do totals change after election night?
- In-person precinct results arrive at different times.
- Mail ballots and other eligible ballots may be processed on a schedule that differs from machine results.
- Provisional ballots require additional review.
- Official canvassing, reconciliation and certification happen after the initial election-night count.
The Department of State cautioned before the election that accurately counting ballots takes time. Close races should not be called solely on the first reported totals.
How to read an election result responsibly
Check the timestamp, number of precincts reporting, and whether the figure is explicitly labeled unofficial. A percentage without knowing the number of votes counted can be misleading. Do not circulate screenshots without their source and timestamp, especially when an image may be from a different county or election.
What SkookPA will do
We’ll distinguish official county or state numbers from projections, clearly mark timestamps, and correct details when primary sources change. If an official result is not yet available, we’ll say so.
