What happened in the opening matches?

According to District XI’s official girls volleyball brackets, Shenandoah Valley defeated Williams Valley in straight sets, 3–0, in Class 2A. Mahanoy Area opened Class 3A with a 3–0 victory over Tamaqua. Panther Valley defeated Saucon Valley 3–1 in Class 4A, while Blue Mountain lost 1–3 to Notre Dame–Green Pond.

Those results are materially different from the preliminary October 23 schedule. Readers should not use an old bracket preview to decide which team is still in the tournament; completed match results determine the next round.

Pine Grove reaches the Class 3A championship match

The biggest October 29 result for Schuylkill teams came at Martz Hall. Pine Grove Area swept Mahanoy Area 3–0 to advance to the District XI Class 3A final. The bracket lists Allentown Central Catholic versus Pine Grove for Tuesday, November 3, at 5:30 p.m. at Catasauqua.

The official bracket also shows Allentown Central Catholic advancing with a 3–0 semifinal win. Pine Grove’s next game therefore represents a championship matchup, not another preliminary round. Monday, November 2: Four local matches to watch

These pairings and times are drawn from District XI’s public bracket display as reviewed October 31. Tournament organizers may revise a time or site; no result has been assigned to an unplayed November 2 contest.

What the brackets mean for Schuylkill teams

Several local schools are still involved across different classifications. The districts group schools by enrollment categories, so the Class 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A brackets represent separate championship paths. A team winning a match in one class cannot advance into another class’s bracket.

For Shenandoah Valley, the opening-round sweep earns a meeting with top-seeded Tri-Valley in 2A. Schuylkill Haven and Lincoln Leadership meet on the other side of that bracket. The winners are scheduled to compete for the class title on November 4, with the district listing the final time and place as pending.

Pottsville’s 5A match against Pocono Mountain East is a semifinal, while Marian Catholic’s 1A meeting with Nativity BVM is another postseason matchup attracting local attention. Blue Mountain and Mahanoy Area results in context

The bracket shows Blue Mountain’s season ending in the Class 4A quarterfinals after the four-set result against Notre Dame–Green Pond. Mahanoy Area won its October 27 match but fell to Pine Grove on October 29.
