SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — Students from Shenandoah Valley High School’s Art Club helped bring more Halloween color to downtown Shenandoah this week. On Wednesday, October 21, participants painted seasonal decorations onto business windows along Main Street.
Businesses and buildings taking part
The Shenandoah Sentinel documented activity at Francesco’s, the Go2 laundromat and the district court, among other downtown stops. Those locations became temporary canvases for student designs that visitors can notice as they walk through the business district.
A decades-old local tradition
The publication traces Halloween window painting in Shenandoah back to at least 1964, when the former Shenandoah Merchants Association supported a related contest. Today’s activity connects students with an older civic practice of seasonal downtown decoration.
Students make art visible beyond school
A public art project gives students the chance to make work that neighbors can enjoy outside the classroom. Businesses gain festive decorations while residents see an example of school and community collaboration.
Respect storefront access and artists
Those interested in seeing the work should follow normal business hours and avoid obstructing entrances. The photo supplied with the Sentinel report is copyrighted reporting imagery; SkookPA has used a separate original illustration rather than reproducing it.
