POTTSVILLE, Pa. — October 21, 2026. A Pottsville man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after police say a woman was assaulted during a domestic dispute and her vehicle and cellphone were taken. Authorities reported the incident occurred on October 15 in the 900 block of West Race Street.

According to an October 20 account of the Pottsville Police investigation, officers identified the accused as Jonah Beaver, 43, of Pottsville. The circumstances described in the report are police allegations; charges do not establish guilt.

Police respond to West Race Street

Pottsville officers reportedly responded around 10:15 a.m. October 15 after a report of a reckless driver. Emergency medical personnel had observed a black GMC Acadia traveling east at a high speed, according to police information summarized in local reporting.

The victim’s mother had sought assistance from EMS personnel. Officers then spoke with the woman and her family about what had happened inside the residence. Their statements became part of the investigation.

Woman reports assault while holding baby

The woman told officers that an argument with Beaver escalated while she held their two-month-old child. She alleged that she was struck, the infant was placed in a crib and she was then pushed and assaulted elsewhere in the home. Police reported observing injuries consistent with the account they were given.

The reported violence is deeply concerning, but the complaint allegations should not be presented as facts a court has established. The child was not identified as injured in the cited account. The woman’s identity is omitted here to protect her privacy.

Investigators further alleged that Beaver left the residence with the woman’s vehicle and cellphone without permission. EMS evaluated the woman at the scene and transported her for additional medical attention, the published police account states.

Vehicle recovered in Lehigh County

After police entered the missing vehicle into a national law-enforcement database, South Whitehall Township police recovered the GMC Acadia and took Beaver into custody, according to the report. South Whitehall authorities also reported separate charges involving fleeing and eluding and receiving stolen property.

The reported recovery does not itself establish what happened inside the Pottsville home. Those allegations must be evaluated through the criminal-justice process.

Charges described by police

Pottsville police reported obtaining an arrest warrant alleging aggravated assault related to domestic violence, strangulation, theft involving the vehicle and cellphone, simple assault and harassment. Different allegations carry different classifications under Pennsylvania law. The ultimate charges and case status should be confirmed against current court dockets because filings can change as cases proceed.

At the time of the October 20 report, police said arraignment on the Pottsville charges would occur later. No conviction was reported. Beaver is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

How to get help with domestic violence

People facing immediate danger should contact 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential safety-planning information at thehotline.org or 800-799-SAFE (7233). Contacting a support service is not the same as filing a criminal complaint.

Domestic violence can affect people of every age and background. A responsible news report describes the allegations without naming a victim unnecessarily or suggesting that the person harmed caused the incident.
