Shenandoah’s ambulance service is getting a six-figure equipment upgrade through a federal grant.
FEMA has awarded Shenandoah Community Ambulance $223,636.36 through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The local organization is responsible for a $22,363.64 share, putting the planned equipment purchase at about $246,000.
The project is expected to replace equipment used on advanced-life-support calls: three powered ambulance cots and three LIFEPAK 35 heart-monitoring units. The equipment being replaced has been in service for roughly ten years.
Shenandoah Community Ambulance says money donated through its annual subscription drive will cover the required local contribution.
Why it matters locally
Ambulance equipment is expensive and heavily used. The federal award lets the organization modernize several major pieces of equipment at once while limiting the amount that must be raised locally.
