Pottsville Police Capture Robbery Suspect After Foot Chase

Pottsville police say a man sought on robbery and firearms allegations was arrested after running from officers during a September encounter.

Authorities identified the man as 32-year-old Vickens Stimphont. Police said plainclothes officers encountered him shortly before 2 a.m. September 20 in the 300 block of South Centre Street and recognized that he was wanted on an existing warrant.

Police allege Stimphont ran after officers attempted to stop him. Another unit encountered him on Union Street and took him into custody.

The warrant stemmed from an earlier Pottsville case in which police allege a man was assaulted, threatened and robbed. Stimphont faces charges connected with those accusations as well as an additional allegation related to fleeing officers.

The case now moves through court

Police reports and criminal complaints contain allegations, not findings of guilt. Stimphont is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless the charges are proven in court.

More context for readers (updated October 9, 2026):

What an arrest does and does not establish

Police can announce an arrest when they believe the evidence supports criminal charges, but that announcement does not mean the case has been decided. A criminal complaint ordinarily sets out the government’s allegations. Any subsequent hearings, changes to the charges or court rulings may provide a different or fuller picture.

Readers following the Pottsville case should distinguish the reported chase from the underlying robbery and firearms allegations; each part may involve different evidence and legal questions. The accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. SkookPA NewZ will not infer a motive, reconstruct an unverified conversation or identify witnesses from rumor. Official court dockets and later police releases are the appropriate starting points for a verified update.
