A chilly start is giving way to a warmer stretch of October weather across Schuylkill County.

A Frost Advisory remained in effect through 9 a.m. Wednesday after overnight temperatures fell into the mid-30s in parts of the region, with sheltered valleys at the greatest risk for frost.

Wednesday’s forecast called for sunshine and a high near 67 degrees, followed by a mostly clear night near 51.

Forecasts indicated sunshine and warmer afternoon temperatures through Saturday before shower chances return Sunday and into Columbus Day.

What local readers should know

Gardeners should still keep an eye on overnight lows, while weekend plans currently have a better chance of dry weather before rain chances increase Sunday.

More context for readers (updated October 9, 2026):

How to interpret an October frost advisory

A frost advisory points to conditions favorable for frost, especially in sheltered or low-lying spots. Temperatures on one side of a county can be different from those in nearby valleys and ridge communities. Backyard gardeners should check their own overnight forecast before deciding whether to cover sensitive plants or bring containers indoors.

The original advisory discussed in this report was for an earlier October period. For conditions now, use the latest forecast and any new alerts from the National Weather Service. Forecast temperatures, wind and cloud cover can change, and an old news article should never be mistaken for a live weather alert.
