DRUMS, Pa. — October 20, 2026. A 36-year-old Butler Township man pleaded guilty Monday to multiple charges stemming from an August 2025 incident in which two older residents and an employee were assaulted at a senior living facility.

Zane Phillip Brobst, 36, entered guilty pleas to aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary and strangulation before Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Vough, according to court reporting published October 19.

What court records describe

The incident occurred at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community on August 31, 2025. According to police accounts cited in court reporting, Brobst forced open a door to enter the facility and pushed an 87-year-old woman who suffered a head injury. Police also alleged he choked an employee and pushed a 76-year-old woman to the floor.

The police account states that responding officers found Brobst in a laundry room. The incident resulted in criminal charges that were pending until the October 19 guilty pleas.

Sentencing scheduled for November 24

Brobst had been scheduled for a jury trial during the week of October 19. Instead, he pleaded guilty in Luzerne County Court. The judge revoked his bail and remanded him to county custody ahead of sentencing, according to the report.

The court scheduled sentencing for November 24, 2026. The eventual sentence should not be described as final before the judge imposes it.

Questions about the facility and safety

For family members of people living in group care, the case highlights the importance of asking each facility about entry controls, visitor procedures, staffing and incident reporting. Each facility’s protocols will differ, and this prosecution alone does not establish that a particular security measure would have prevented the assault.

Families can ask senior-living operators how emergencies are communicated and what happens if an unauthorized person enters the building. Serious concerns can be reported to the appropriate licensing agency or law-enforcement authority.

Where the information comes from

The guilty plea and incident details were reported by the Times Leader on October 19, citing Luzerne County court records and Butler Township police.
